Philippines Set to Lead ASEAN with Early Completion of National Fiber Backbone by June 2026
Oct 17,2025
The DICT has fast-tracked the National Fiber Backbone (NFB) project, now aiming for full completion by June 2026 instead of the original 2028 target. The project, valued at ₱16.1 billion, seeks to provide a government-owned, high-capacity fiber optic network connecting all major regions of the Philippines. Backed by World Bank funding, it will enable affordable and reliable internet access in underserved and remote areas. Meta has committed up to 2 Tbps of capacity to support the initiative. This backbone infrastructure is expected to enhance digital inclusion and strengthen national cybersecurity and data sovereignty.
